VIP open house

There’s seriously more than meets the eye. Welcome to longyetshort’s two hundredth post.

And to celebrate a new beginning, I’m choosing to blog about VIP’s open house 2009.

The preceding events were kind of weird :/ We asked Ms Boey to release us from Chemistry extra class early at 8.45, lo and behold, we ended up leaving for VJC at 9.20.

And to embarrass myself before everything even started, I fell down the step at the performance theatre above. But then again, I didn’t fall. I just bumped into someone. Meh.

The PowerPoint slides were quite professional and really aesthetically pleasing  and I didn’t know you could do those effects with PowerPoint. Of course, every school tries to embellish itself a little, but surprisingly the VJC principal admitted to us that his IP students only did slightly better than their average counterparts.

But of course, there are outstanding people here and there. The hollistic development of the students is also there, and you can really see that the students are bubbly, enthusiastic and curteous. Not everything can be measured through academics, and when you’re fighting with others for eg. a scholarship; a place in a prestigious university, everyone’s going to have the same grades and something needs to push you above the rest.

The emcees were also very quirky throughout the session, suddenly popping out of the audience and speaking. It was quite an engaging event, with me finally understanding the Helmsman Programme and the Imagineering module and learning more about what makes Victoria-down-the-road tick.

Financial literacy week, which is part of the Helmsmann programmewhere you play mock stocks and all. It’s held annually.

A picture of the goodie bag they gave us. Of course, even though there was an issue of Time magazine and of course 2 SoyJoy bars, the most interesting part was Prospectus 2009/2010. It gave a lot of information, and made things a lot clearer. The whole affair had a very professional yet fun outlook.

Outperforming, Outstanding, Out having fun. Check.

They also let us play in the Biology labs. We experimented with egg white and we turned it purple . I spilt Potassium hydroxide on my skin and it started burning. As in like, stinging. Gah. A reminder for me to brush up on my vocabulary if I want to get into the VIP.

There was also a wide array of interesting quotes and also they were pretty inspirational. Something I like. It’s like being reminded everyday that success is not served on a platter.

Surprise, surprise. Guess who this is. Clue: The photographer Lim Muyao did wedding photography for a certain 2A teacher. Try to imagine her with glasses. Of course, the minute Pandiyan noticed who she was, he immediately started snapping photos like a camwhore. Lol.

I really hope I’ll be able to see this on a daily basis.

I guess you could draw a lot of parallels between VJC and VS and indeed see some similarity. It’s really a sort of extension. The multimedia poem project that we’re doing now is being done in a similar fashion in VJC. Only much more professional. They somehow manage to bring about synesthesia, an association between image and text.

The Flexsi Rooms are also just like the rooms we were in during the different student sharings in VJC. There’s also seriously more than meets the eye, the campus is so much bigger than if you drive along marine parade road.

I can safely say that it looks quite incredible. Time well spent today. Although the classrooms look quite…dark, the other facilities were actually quite nice. Especially the concourse.

One weird thing though, they never used “Nil Sine Labore” once throughout the entire presentation. Weird. But then again, the field has this gigantic adidas banner that says “Nothing without labour” on the VJ side then on the Adidas side “Impossible is nothing”. :D

The whole place wasn’t very new or sparkling, but good enough I guess, and considerably the spirit and all made up for it. I still remember the boy on boy friendship dance. eeks.

If a man wakes up famous (i.e. successful) he has not been sleeping.
