Next Plane Home

Wow, its already the second day of school : ( :

Bittersweet really. The days have been average I suppose. It’s as if my daily routine is like this:

  • Get home
  • Bathe
  • Do homework
  • Revise a little
  • Mousehunt
  • Sleep

I suppose my tastes have changed a lot. I don’t really see the point of those people who wear skinny jeans and loud t-shirts already. Instead, I find myself wearing things like polos. Ohman, I’m aging early.

Not a very nice first week. Mr Maran has been okay, but I’d rather be doing physics now instead of chemistry. I really don’t know how I got through last year’s second semester. Maybe because there was more than 1 humanities subject. Probably because I was ready for some serious stuff because of art and music being in the first semester.

But don’t get me wrong, music is fun (:

Let’s just hope that I’ll be able to work on my strengths and improve on my weaknesses. Like what one of juniors said, when you’re in the midst of school, you pray for the holidays to come. When the holidays are finally here, you wish that school was back. People are never going to be satisfied with what they have, so you use your disadvantages to your advantage, and use that urge as an outlet for self improvement, abjuring jealousy…

I think I really have to thank VS. One of my older readers have said that my writing style has changed somewhat, slightly more mellow. I shall take that as a compliment. I guess by writing blog posts, I keep my writing up to scratch and its an enjoyable practice.

But also thanks to certain people, I can’t write things that are too deep. Or it’ll just get displayed and made a mockery of. That anathema. I might seem very arbitrary, but I suppose it’s how my mind is constructed, to be able to balance different events and pluck out relevant materials. It’s like a library I suppose. The ability to condense and organize information.

Ok, I can’t really find material to blog about now. Sadly. I should really stop using these circumlocutions of mine. : ) :

Finally a normal post xD

I was wayyy too lazy to post about anything, even though there have been so many things happening. I’m a lousy blogger >.<

First up, scout non-residential camp.

Or more simply put, day camp. It’s actually kind of funny. That time when I was explaining our RSP december camp to WB I said that it was a day camp. He was like “What’s a day camp, does such a thing exist?”

LOL.

So anyway, we started right off with backwoodsman. And I think eventually you get immune to stuff like sticking your hand into a chicken’s anus to dig out stuff. This year’s sec 1s are the best. They cooked prata, eggs, sausages and yeah I think that’s it, instead of sharing in the fun with us.

Oh and we ended up using kitchen knives instead of jacknives to shave the bark off branches for skewers. Luckily our immune systems were quite strong.

Day 2 we had pioneering, which was actually supposed to be a mini project but somehow took quite a while. It’s like a bridge with two quad-pods at the side to support it.

Then cooking competition. We basically just spammed some MSG-filled soup filled with pepper, potatoes, carrots, onions and erm yeah.

The meat we fried some fish fillet. You know, they came at $4 for 2 packets. And the best part was, we thought one packet was enough, so we traded it with other groups. And 1 packet was hardly enough in the end.OH! and you know what we used to beat the egg?

DSC01281…a CARROT!

Vegetables we had some stir-fried cabbage. Which according to WB wasn’t cooked but erm ok it was edible and quite nice.

DSC01285

Desert was erm…stupid. We wanted to do some fondue at first, then we changed it to fruit skewers with whipped cream, but even that didn’t work. So in the end we bought apples, oranges and nata-de coco, we sliced the stuff up and then put the nata de coco in the centre.

DSC01283

Day 3 was erm…’fun day’ at the beach. The best part was that we got buried in the sand. And it got quite sick making body parts out of sand. aiyo~.Then cycling. Not much to say, except that I STILL need to learn how to cycle.

UG games day.

The first UG games day, unfortunately, only 2 out of 20 sec 1s turned up. Apparently they couldn’t take the cycling yesterday, and one had an asthma attack.

Oh and one of the sec 1s finally got screwed.

Bing yu, the station inspector for NPCC, was like “Ok you’re leaving early, can u take a lunch box first?”

Mark: “But I’m eating lunch with my parents”

Bing Yu: “Can you take it and just throw it away if you really don’t want it?”

Mark: “But I’m taking the bus”

Bing Yu:” Is it so inconvienient for you to take a stupid lunch box and throw it away?”

Mark:”YES”

Bing yu started shouting at him. LOL.

It was fun being admin. Nothing to do, except random games of floorball with the committee which were really fun. LOL.

The shirt:

The thing which I originally thought was a tree when I saw it from far. WHOOPS?

DSC01311

The funny thing was that I totally didn’t even know I was involved until the last minute. LOL.

Lastly, the National Resiliency course.

Erm, nothing much to say about it, except that Sarpino’s Pizza owns. The mini clue trail was quite fun, but at times extremely annoying.

Then we had to build a house made out of materials we had. The materials were given out according to how many points we had. It was kind of stupid, because firstly what does it have to do with resilience? And second, we just spammed glue. LOL.

DSC01314

Wow, finally, the end of a long post. LOL. 623 words.

Fark it.

This town is colder now, I think it’s sick of us
It’s time to make our move, I’m shakin’ off the rust
I’ve got my heart set on anywhere but here
I’m staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands, just take the wheel…
And every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal for the life I lead

—-

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, can you see what I see

I realised why certain things happen. It’s mostly because of what you do.

New whiteboard :)

I realised that there was quite a lot of improvement I could do for my room, so I went to shop around and eventually bought a few more office like addendums (: Pity about my swivel chair though.

——

I guess its time to introduce you hardly-existent readers to my room (:

CIMG2758

My Ikea bookshelf which is hopelessly stuffed and crammed with weird books. There’s Tintin, horrible histories, Boggle, Horrible Science, Chinese books and Gundam O_o. And my current favourite, the Lee Doctrine. For Matthew Tan, there’s a few Star Wars comics :D

CIMG2759

My study table. Which hasn’t changed much since the last time you saw it. I hope. Maybe a few more scratches. And I need a new lamp, my lightbulb keeps flickering on and off.

CIMG2765

My set of ring files. I keep my past year worksheets in them, and for things like Geography and Literature, which I probably won’t use until Sec 3 (possibly? sigh.), they’re relegated to my files instead of my study table, which is already bursting with textbooks. Sigh.

CIMG2762

Just some random things which I started getting into the habit of pasting for SA1, after I stuck my SA1 Timetable onto it. The trybe thing was actually stuck there out of boredom. Put it this way, if everyone is a success and a hero, then who are the losers? Everyone?

CIMG2763

My windows don’t exactly let in a lot of light. There’s a transparent portion at the top, which I suppose is good, since it provides quite a bit of privacy. As in like, why would I need privacy?

CIMG2761

Finally, my new whiteboard. There’s dates for you to circle and fill in, which I find is really useful since that idiosyncratic anathema of a handbook of mine is torn apart. The dates on the board are a little anachronistic though, because I can’t write the next month’s dates in. sadly. I’m not exactly very busy recently, but the spate of camps is mind boggling. I don’t mind going to the Arrow scouts one…but to go to a confirmation camp where I don’t know half the class well is? And I thought you can’t do camping now that there’s a pandemic declared?

The dearth of disorganization, the alacrity of action, a vituperation of non-action, a utilitarian zephyr of change.

Yes we can.

Laughs and lols.

Yesterday I was at Joejyn’s house practising for our Bahasa Indonesia skit…speaking of which I need to make the point that I am absolutely fed up with dramatizations.

But either way it was okay, other than the fact that they wanted me to wear a lime green t-shirt and that Joejyn still owns me at halo and that his brother always gives me and Joseph away after we try to steal his stuff from the ATM toy machine that he has.

It’s so easy to break into, just twiddle the dial randomly for awhile, and it will open! No combination whatsoever. It was seriously lame. We kept playing with the stuff in his house :) His storeroom is damn nice and quiet though, compared to the noise being generated by his brother and the 3 of us.

After that was ‘camp prep’. Which meant collecting firewood for the June ‘camp’, which is a ‘non-residential camp’. Which in essence is a day camp.  It will probably be fun lah…except for the fact that Baden only probably has its Sec 2s, sec 1s and Haoyang going. Which is actually a lot lah, but probably only about 5 maybe as compared to other patrols with probably around 7 or 8.

There was also a dead rat under the branch surrounded by these big black flies and Benjamin was like “Ehh!!! Watch out for the BEES!!”

LOL.

Hegemony.

Lol. Before I start, I just realised that WordPress lets you publish things in the past. Which is amazing. I can post something today, but the date shows up as May 31st even in my dashboard and of course, on my blog. Very, very handy.  Which is to say, I can make events in time ‘happen’, so to speak . The power of the pen. Of course, I’m deluding myself.

I’ve been reading The Singapore Story, or the memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew. It’s a pretty good book, but with as-of-yet-undone-maths-homework, I can’t really savour it or anything.

But there’s this word that has popped up twice, both in Ender’s Game and The Singapore Story: Hegemony.

he⋅gem⋅o⋅ny

1. leadership or predominant influence exercised by one nation over others, as in a confederation.
2. leadership; predominance.
3. (esp. among smaller nations) aggression or expansionism by large nations in an effort to achieve world domination.

Just as if you read your Sec 2 History textbook, it really gets interesting because it talks about Singapore history, and you can really see how difficult it was for Singapore to go from third world to first, which IMO was certainly not helped by a prevailing white supremacist mindset. Its still quite prevalent today and I guess it will be a part of our culture that will never go away.

But of course, its not as if the whites have nothing to be proud of. However, that’s not the point. It’s more interesting to study WHY nations exercise control over each other, and how these things came to be. Which is also why, I suppose, History happens to be my best humanities subject.

I don’t think its the first time I’ve noticed this, or anyone else for that matter, but the things that we study in school are hardly just textbook knowledge. Sure, somethings you might never need to know, but then again, that’s very short sighted. I didn’t pay attention to music class in primary school because my teachers would always give me As in primary school. Now, I still don’t know how to read music.

Philosophy and History go so well hand in hand together. The humanities are such interesting subjects. Instead of wondering how things happen ala science, IMO the humanities investigate why humans made these things happen. Which I think ultimately is equably important as the sciences.

Then again, there’s the prevailing question of which to choose, Arts or Sciences. Which is why I think its good that the MOE is introducing the need for contrasting subjects. But then again, why am I thinking so deep? I still have 2 years of education to live out. Or maybe not. Depends.

It never hurts to think further.

You might be wondering why I’m posting such random things, but I just can’t find something engaging to do. Maybe I should start studying a little, but then again, that’s one part which I seriously want to leave behind.

Exeunt.

Shag…

Today’s PT wasn’t annoying at all…it was BLOODY ANNOYING.

Run to ECP, Turn and Run to VJC, Run back to School. I know all you cross country people will be reading and sniggering behind your screens lah, but whatever okay.

Eh, can you guys help me buy my Donation Draw tickets, only $2 each. But of course, I’d rather use the $2 to buy a plate of chicken rice from MJC.

And WB is not making my schedule any easier. Collect firewood on Wednesday, when on Tuesday I have OPW and Wednesday I was supposed to do BI project. Aiyo, I’d love to skip Scouts and go do BI project. But maybe I’ll go for half-half both. As of now, I need a Calendar, or an organizer, I need t alter my scout pants until they’re not so…flabby and I need to find a way to cut off that stupid NPC badge and move it lower.

Terminator Salvation

DSC01234

It started out with a little Seoul Garden (:

where’s the DAMN garden?

Harish was having a hell lot of trouble locating Seoul Garden, and he even mistakenly walked over to tampines 1 to look for it. After he got in and sat down, all he could eat was spaghetti. FOR 15 BUCKS.

So yeah, today was the VSPB outing to watch Terminator Salvation.Although there were only like 6 Sec 2s it didn’t really matter much. But then, suddenly some people changed their minds, so some sec 4s and Terence decided to watch Night at the Museum 2 instead.

DSC01246

Look at Terence and his uber-shocked face. So yeah, our table spammed quite a bit, although it was nowhere near that time with the scouts after NPC. Although it was like ten times more retarded. John tried to fry an egg. Oh and he also tried Tofu, even though they got burnt eventually.

DSC01245

Oh and remind me never ever to take seafood at Seoul Garden again. First, it didn’t smell too good, and second, John was like eating  a prawn halfway until he realised it wasn’t very cooked and threw it back onto the plate. The innards were like oozing out and it was very disgusting. :X

DSC01249

I don’t regret choosing Terminator Salvation though. One thing to note though, if you have sensitive ears, after you come out you might not have any eardrums left. Seriously, it was freaking loud. And a lot of like cheap scares. Every time there’s some terminator trying to take John Connor out. But it was actually very cool. But again, a lot of cheap scares.

This is John Conner. If you are hearing this, you are the Resistance.

After that we played with the mentos machine. Its the one where the numbers from 2 to 5 light up then the one you press is the number of mini tubes you’ll get. So I devised a strategy to get 5, and apparently it worked, but not before attracting a lot of people. So Harish got like…3 and this other small kid got 4 and he was so embarrassed.

DSC01252

And that was Harish. Luled.

DSC01251

Thivian in his natural habitat with a tissue paper. (:

Haler. Fun leh.

I shall just digress on to my RSP research paper. I’m starting to catch on to why RSP is so interesting. Although truth to be told, Indonesia should have been the focus of the second year, not the first, because you only really start to realise how beautiful something is after you take a while to explore and ‘feel’ it. I think Pura Uluwatu is seriously a good example of the pros and cons of globalization and commercialization. Pity I couldn’t think about it in time for the ‘iGeneration’ question.
